Bayview’s Fall Plant Pick

Bayview poster of the New England aster plant

The daisy-like flowers of the New England aster give fall gardens a colorful pick-me-up. They bloom from late summer through fall, even after a frost. They are deer-resistant, perfect for pollinators, and contain tiny seed heads that cardinals, chickadees, finches, and other seed-eating birds love. Plant young plants in the spring, or choose a more mature plant from your garden center to plant in late summer or early fall. They prefer full to part sun and come in a range of colors from magenta to deep purple. Cut asters last 5-10 days making them perfect for flower arrangements too.
