Public School 6

Upper East Side, New York

When the Parent Teacher Association of PS 6 on the Upper East Side of Manhattan asked if Bayview could help “take back” the school’s out-of-control streetscape and rooftop garden, our team was more than happy to donate our time pro bono to help.

  • Clients: PTA of PS6

    Completion Date: 2019

    Square footage: 6,300

    Acreage: 0.15

Collaborators: The wonderful volunteers from the PS6 community!

Over the course of a few days, our team pruned, staked, cleaned, and transplanted plants to restore this beacon of the community to its past garden glory. Located at the corner of 81st Street and Madison Avenue, the streetscape gardens are appreciated by local residents and tourists on their way to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The rooftop garden houses the school’s amazing and unique Eco-Center, where students take science classes and learn about natural plant cycles and sustainability through gardening, composting, harvesting, and rainwater collection. With a little TLC, we were able to get the fruit trees, flowering trees, vegetables, grape vines, and shrubs back under control for the next wave of students to appreciate and learn from.
