Harbor Hideaway

Sag Harbor, New York

This modern jewel in a historic fishing village maximizes its compact footprint to boost summer relaxation. The crunch of gravel under car tires welcomes residents and guests to this Hamptons retreat. Strategically located evergreen plant material and a custom fence conceal backyard activities from arriving vehicles. Tall billowing Karl Foerster ornamental grasses, whose blooms move with the breezes coming off the Cove, complement the dark wood exterior of the home.

Crape Myrtle trees in the front yard are illuminated beautifully at night and steal the show with a cascade of white flower blooms in July and August. The pool sits adjacent to the rear glass facade, so you can barely tell where the house ends and the pool begins. Natural stone used in the pool decking is cool on bare feet and provides ample opportunity to soak in the sun, while stepping stones trimmed in gravel give access to the other passive use spaces in the yard. Creative siting of the pool enclosure fencing maintains ample space for children to play in between their dips in the pool.
